For audition, you will need to prepare two contrasting pieces and expect to sight read. The sight reading level will be similar to that expected at the grade 6 exam. Your audition will not take longer than 10 minutes and it is a feature of this audition that you may be stopped at any time during your performance. If you have applied for more than one instrument you should bring all instruments to the audition. Percussionists must bring their own sticks. Auditions are unaccompanied.
In 2019, IYWE will again offer the opportunity for selected participants to rehearse and perform a concerto movement or movements or other work for ensemble and solo player(s) with the ensemble.
Players eligible to apply will be studying music – in their final year of undergraduate or pursuing postgraduate studies.
Players can nominate a concerto or concertos from which they wish to perform. If nominating more than one, please list in order of your preference. Nominated pieces must be available in original scores or arrangements for wind ensemble. It is possible that a suitable new arrangement would be performed by the ensemble but this must be by advance agreement.
Auditions for those wishing to perform a concerto will be 15 minutes in duration instead of 10 minutes. Please prepare a movement of one of the proposed works. A piano part must be provided. An accompanist is not necessary but auditionees may provide their own accompanist if they wish. Please inform us beforehand.
